Finding the Best Web Hosting Company : Checklist

May 4th, 2008 izephyr 2 comments

You want to host your website to a good (or the best) web hosting company you must look for many things around the web. When you search for web hosting companies in the search engines like yahoo or google, you can find hundred or thousands of results. It is true that most of the results will lead you to a web hosting company’s website. You will have to look for many informaion around the website to know what they provide and what they takes.

If you want to find the best web hosting company, you must check out the following things to get the most out of your hosting provider.

1. Who are they, Hosting company owner or just reselling web hosting services from another web hosting company?
Normally, if they are reselling others service, they have two options

Either
a. They Have a Reselling Account from where they manage their business and customers
or,
b. They Sell the Actual Hosting Company’s services and gets a commission.

It is true that they would not disclose such information to you. But you can easily find out the piece of information you want with a simple logic. It’s very simple. Consider you manufacture ‘Orange Juice’ and adds ‘Preservative’ to it so that it can remain good for long time. As, Adding a preservative is considered to be some negative sign for health you will never mention in your advertisements that you have added preservatives to it. However, if you have added no preservatives, you will always shout aloud that your products have no preservatives added. Now in case of Web Hosting company the Preservative is the Data Center. If a web hosting company really owns their services, they will always try to mention that they have their own data center which is the heart of any web hosting company. So, you find the answer by decieving them that if they do not own a data center, most possibly they resell other’s services.
2. Does they have any “Trial Account” signup option or “Money Back Gurantee?

It is important to have any one of the options in any web hosting company. This is because, you have read about them and it is possible that their actual performance may vary depending on their user load on the network and for many other factors. (actually hundreds of things influences Web Hosting Company’s performance). You have signed up for your web hosting needs but after that you find that the services are not satisfactory to you. Now, if the hosting company has a “Trial Account” or “Money Back Gurantee” you can be assured that you will be able to cancel the service provider anytime within the specified period. Still, keep in mind that according to the hosting company’s policy regarding trial or money back, you may be charged some money (very liitle amount in most cases).

3. What is their domain policy?

You are hosting a website in which domain is the key. Please check out their domain hosing policy for how they handle your domain name, how they will register your domain (public or private) and how they will let you transfer your domain in case you need.

4. How do they provide you the technical support / customer service?

It is another vital factor about any service provider, specially for those who are online because there is possibility that you never will go to their office for support. Now, find how they provide you support, by telephone or email or any other way. If it is telephone whether it is toll-free or not. I have seen many web hosting company giving a toll-free number but never actually recieving it on time. Do not solely depend on the hosting providers so called ‘Knowledge Base’ or ‘Automatic Help System’ because these questions will answer to your questions but not solve your problems.

There are many factors that you should consider while choosing a web hosting company but these things are the top priority for finding the most reliable web hosting company.

(I will post some related articles soon)

I would suggest you 1&1 for your hosting needs because they
> Own their State-of-the-Art Modern Datacenter
> They guarantee you on money back
> They Provide you faster and better support.
and many other competetive options that you are surely going to enjoy if you host your website with this company.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Guide 1

May 3rd, 2008 izephyr 1 comment

To make your pages more easily accessible by the search engine’s crawler or spider, you have to make sure that you have optimized the pages for your target keywords upon searching which your pages will be found. Developing an optimized web page needs much research on the contents of your web pages.

It is important to remember that if you optimize the web pages for some keywords and put irrelevant content in your pages, your site will rank lower in search engines and you will stay far behind the search result links.

However, to optimize your web pages you must, first, research the target keywords for your contents. For example you have a website where you want to sell ‘used cars’. Some possible keywords for your site can be ‘used car’, ‘ used cars’, ‘second hand cars’ etc. But somebody might search ‘buy used car’. So, you should include all these plus other relevant keywords as your web pages keywords. To make your page more accessible, your target Keywords must be more than two words because a single word like ‘car’ will match millions of web pages where your site’s link may lost in the crowd. You have to make sure your keywords and contents are matching and powerful.

Along with using the keywords in the html meta tags, you should also add the keywords in your page title. This will lighten fast action for your web pages’ ranking in a search engine.

If possible use the keyword contained sentence as your page’s header or use the keywords as the title of the contents.

After creating the keywords, you have to put keyword relevant content in the web pages because if the title matches the keywords but the content does not seems to focus on that, your site will rank lower. Consider the situation that you searched for ‘Science Fiction Books’ and after clicking a result, you were taken to a page where there are science related articles or products. Would you like to return to the same page again? Think it from your perspective, putting wrong content will stray your users from your website and consequently you may lose traffic.

Build inbound link to your website. The more visitors you will have in your website, the more your will rank high in the search engine results. (We will soon publish an article about how to build inbound links)

Because of the way most search engines work, they will index the other pages from your web site by following links from a page you submit to them. Sometimes they may miss a part but which is very important to you. So it’s a good idea to submit the most important two or three pages that best summarize your web site. If you do so, the indexing will be better.

Do not submit all the pages to the site because, doing so will lessen your search engine performance as well as the search engine may consider your actions as Search Engine Spamming and ban or remove your url from their listing.

Search Engine Optimization of your web pages is very important to reach more user.

Virtualization : How it Benifits You

May 3rd, 2008 izephyr No comments

Depending on the size of the company Virtualization can heavily improve company’s benefits. The company which previously had 200 servers may now use 50 servers having more powerful hardware resources and it makes it easy for the administrators to maintain.

It also reduces cost either of initial investment or of maintaining cost. If 200 servers would require 10 administrators, 50 servers will need only 5; Also fewer computers means less energy consumption, less space requirements etc.

There are other benefits besides server consolidation. Since the movement of a virtual machine can be accomplished in short order, it is possible to minimize planned downtime and ensure better service levels. Virtualization can also be part of a disaster recovery solution.

It will also help using the physical hardware resources more effectively.

Virtualization, like any other things, has some downside, too. It has lesser security which can be overcome if security can be deployed at the network layer. Also, with more requests its performance meter becomes down. However, things will go better soon with Virtualization technology.

Virtualization is certainly here to stay because, it will supplement the smaller companies a greater performance and lesser investments both of which are very important to the small business owners. Like anything else worth doing, you need to take the time to implement virtualization correctly so you receive the maximum benefit.

Virtualization : How it Works

May 3rd, 2008 izephyr No comments

Virtualization is presently a key buzzword in the IT industry. In the early 90’s, it became apparent that virtualization could be the solution to the problem of underutilization of systems and increasing management costs. Today, virtualization is one of the hottest topics for enterprise IT. Around the globe, the largest enterprises are implementing various stages of virtualization. They are either using it, have it selectively implemented, or are planning how to use it.

How Virtualization Works
Virtualization is an isolated part or layer that divides the physical hardware resources and distributes them to the parts. This allows multiple virtual machines, with homogeneous or heterogeneous operating systems, to run concurrently on the same physical system. The physical resources from the physical system (CPU, RAM, NIC, disk space, etc.) are partitioned from the physical system and allocated to the virtual machines created. The operating system sees these virtual machines as independent operating systems with the distributed hardware resources to be their own hardware.
Virtual systems are consolidated into files; this makes it possible to move an entire system easily from one physical system to another. This provides the enterprise with some considerable advantages like backing up important data, or transfer a full server to another server.
