Spam vs Legitimate Email Marketing

Recently I found my spam folder flooding with spam emails. But while going through the spams to check that whether there were any important mail caught by the system. Amazingly there were a few emails that were actually not spams. So, I moved them from the spam box and put the addresses on whitelist.

So, I decided that I will write about spamming and legitimate emails. Both are a way of marketing products but the former is simply illegal and the whole world is already fighting it.

Spamming is a very common method of sending emails to persons without their requests. There are certain differences between Spamming and legitimate email marketing.

In spamming, the recipients are unaware about the email and they never requested the mails to be sent. Though the content might match the interest of the person but it is not his/her intention to receive such email. Normally a spam email is sent to many people, surprisingly to millions of email addresses flooding their email boxes.

It’s very effective and extremely effecient for the sender’s perspective because it lets them distribute a message to millions of people. Spammer’s aim is that at least a few people will resopnd from the huge number and that’s what they want. But most recipients think them just as junk email.

It is difficul to differentiate between spam and legitimate email marketing campaigns althou g there are some clear differences. Typically a legitimate marketing email is sent with the permission of the reciepient and the messages are sent to a very smaller group of recipients.

The most important fact is that a legitimate email comes from a source already known to the reciepient who has given them the necessary instructions to send such messages.
